If you're looking for an authentic country escape, head for the hills of Yea nestled in a valley just 20 minutes drive from the wineries and tourist attractions of the Yarra Valley. The Yea Peppercorn Hotel, built in the 1860's, is a treasure trove of original features which give the hotel the ambience and warmth of a bygone era. When you step into our renowned Kelly Dining room and soak up the rustic warmth of massive open fireplaces, exposed original brick walls and giant wooden beams from historic nearby bridges you will immediately shake off the stress and strain of city life and relax into Peppercorn mode.
Our unique food rapidly put us on the map in North East Victoria when we reopened the hotel in March 2008. Our dedicated food team are exponents of the slow food movement and our menu reflects our passion for flavour and our enthusiasm for hearty, rustic classics that are not often seen on modern restaurant menus. You're in the heart of cattle country, so don't be surprised by the quality of our steaks or the variety of meat dishes on the menu. While we specialise in time-honoured favourites like steak and kidney pie and roast beef with Yorkshire pudding we also keep a close eye on modern food trends with exciting offerings like Moroccan stuffed loin of lamb with couscous, mint and ras el hanout spices, Kofta lamb curry with Bombay potatoes, yoghurt and coriander and North Indian whole Schnapper, ovenbaked with coriander, cumin, chilli and ginger. Fresh seafood is a star player in our repertoire and is heavily featured on our menu. If you have a sweet tooth book yourselves in for the ultimate indulgence, classic crème’ brulee, homemade icecreams, Prince Rainier’s favourite decadent chocolate mousse with praline and roasted almond icecream, or hot lumberjack pudding with caramel sauce. Got the picture?
Fabulous food is one thing but it requires equivalent skills in service. No snooty superior waiters serve in our dining room, only the people who own the business, passionate about service, eager to please and dedicated to making your stay in our restaurant and accommodation a memorable experience which gives you a slice of country tradition. Our accommodation in the hotel will give you an instant welcome with modern ensuite bathrooms, spacious rooms, imaginative décor and a wonderful old-style verandah for the exclusive use of staying guests. For those who wish for more private accommodation we also have two, 2-bedroom apartments a short stroll from the Peppercorn.
